Why Tri Delta? http://www.tridelta.org/collegian/why_tri_delta Becoming a Tri Delta is a life-changing experience filled with new friends, responsibilities, and exciting character-building opportunities.
content-dotted-line.png

IMG_0519.JPGDelta Delta Delta has been providing a perpetual bond of friendship for more than 120 years.

Commitment to Diversity
From the very beginning, Sarah Ida Shaw and her sorority sisters celebrated the various character traits that make each individual a special young woman. The policies, procedures, plans and programs of Delta Delta Delta exemplify inclusiveness, appreciation for diversity, and respect for human dignity and the worth of the individual.

High Standards of Excellence
Tri Delta's Accreditation Plan was set in place to support chapters in having high standards of excellence within their chapters.  The plan focuses on five major areas:  financial responsibility, intellectual life, leadership and collaboration, member recruitment, and new member integration.

Responsibility to Serve
The responsibility to serve has long held an important place in the hearts of Tri Deltas.  This commitment to civic engagement and responsibility is reflected in the Fraternity's philanthropic activities and service opportunities.

Dedication to Leadership Development
The Center for Living, Learning & Leading, the Fraternity's newest educational foundation, continues this long-standing tradition by sponsoring programs that empower Tri Delta's members to broaden their moral and intellectual life.

Academic Awards http://www.tridelta.org/collegian/scholar_awards As Tri Delta strives to "broaden the intellectual life" for its members, we recognize the importance of supporting collegiate academics. The Eileen Blain Rudolph Scholarship Award and New Member Academic Award, sponsored by alumnae chapters, both speak to that effort.
content-dotted-line.png

Eileen Blain Rudolph Scholarship Award_MG_7952.JPG
This award recognizes the member with the highest grade point average (GPA) at the end of her junior year. This award is given during the fall semester.

The New Member Academic Award
This award is given to the new member with the highest GPA at the end of the first semester she was a member.

These awards are sponsored each year by an alumnae chapter. Alumnae chapters may sponsor any collegiate chapter(s) not already sponsored by another alumnae chapter. This is a great way to promote collegiate/alumnae relations and highlight the importance of academics.

For more information about sponsoring a chapter award contact Sally Snyder. For more information about the changes to these awards, effective Fall 2011 please read the Academic Awards FAQ.

Field Consultant Testimonials http://www.tridelta.org/collegian/fc_testimonials

Women who have served Tri Delta as Field Consultants have many positive things to say about their experience.

content-dotted-line.png

"The year I spent as a Field Consultant was one of the most meaningful years of my life. There is nothing like going to bed at night after an exhausting days work knowing I was making a difference in the lives of collegiate women, volunteers, and the Fraternity. It allowed me to grow personally through self-sacrifice for others, but perhaps the gift that I am most grateful for is the friendships I was given with the other consultants. They are the models of the woman I strive to be, and some of my closest friends today. I am thankful every day to Tri Delta for them."

Christie Yerks, Virginia Tech, Field Consultant 2006-2007

"Serving Tri Delta as a Field Consultant was life changing for me.  First, it gave me the opportunity to learn about myself, develop leadership and interpersonal skills I have used throughout my adult life, and travel to see so many interesting campuses and places throughout the United States. But, more importantly, it gave me the opportunity to learn more about our Fraternity and the wonderful collegians and alumnae who comprise our membership.  These experiences have led to my lifelong involvement with Tri Delta and I truly could not imagine my life without my DDD friends and experiences.  There is so much more to Tri Delta membership than the friendships we develop in our collegiate chapters, and serving as a Field Consultant helped me to understand the depth and the breadth of what Delta Delta Delta has to offer each of us.

Michelle Popp Shimberg, Florida, Field Consultant 1984-1985, Fraternity President 2004-2008

"The Field Consultant experience taught me more about myself as a professional and as a person than I ever thought I could learn in just one year. Fifty+ flights and over 30 presentations later, I feel more independent and confident in my career and in live. When I think of the missed flights, difficult Standards meetings, the few hours of sleep I got, and the number of nights I missed home more than anything - I'll admit that even tying the world's prettiest bow around this experience will not make it glamorous. With this experience also came great memories! I was given the opportunity to travel the county, help chapters get through tough times, meet thousands of my fellow sisters and even help start a brand new chapter. Most of all I cherish the relationships I have formed with my fellow FC's on this journey. I would not trade this experience for anything in the world."

Allison Lakey, Millikin, Field Consultant 2009-2010

Psi Psi Psi http://www.tridelta.org/collegian/tri_psi Tri Psi is the only Greek-letter mothers' sorority and the only international sorority for mothers of fraternity women.

content-dotted-line.png

Laura_outman.jpgMy name is Laura Outman and I am the International President of PSI PSI PSI.

I joined the Alpha Iota chapter in St. Louis, Missouri, over 10 years ago. My mother joined Tri Psi after I became a Tri Delta in college, so naturally I wanted to join when MY daughter became a Tri Delta as well!

Sarah Ida Shaw, a founder of both Tri Delta and Tri Psi, saw the benefits of a strong mother-daughter relationship.Tri Psi is a great organization that not only helps support our Tri Delta daughters, but helps build special friendships with other Tri Delta mothers. We welcome all mothers, step-mothers, and foster-mothers to become a part of this fantastic organization.

A minimum number of 10 interested mothers are all that is needed to start a new chapter! Please read through the Tri Psi section of the Tri Delta website for more information about this exciting group of women. You can also visit www.tripsisorority.com for details.

Support for Tri Delta Colonies and Chapters http://www.tridelta.org/collegian/extension_support Tri Delta is committed to supporting our new and existing chapters during all phases of chapter development.  Fraternity volunteers and Tri Delta staff members provide this support to ensure our chapters have an empowering and meaningful lifetime membership experience.

content-dotted-line.png

The following section is a brief outline of the outstanding support given to our new chapters and also outlines several aspects of our ongoing support for established chapters.

Field Consultant:  A recent graduate who is intensively trained for a one-year commitment to assist Tri Delta chapters.  A Field Consultant visits each chapter at least once per year to review all aspects of sound chapter management.

Stationary Field Consultant:  Field consultants who work extensively to welcome new Tri Delta chapters to our sisterhood.  Although field consultants normally travel to collegiate chapters across the country, the specially-trained stationary field consultant provides continual support to a new chapter for at least one year, with continued full- or part-time support for the second year.

Advisory Team:  A core group of up to six specially-trained alumnae who live in the area and work with the chapter on a consistent and ongoing basis.

Collegiate District Officer: Alumna volunteer who supervises overall operation of two to three collegiate chapters in her district.  The collegiate district officer directly supports the chapter advisory team and serves as a liaison between her chapters and Fraternity volunteers and Tri Delta's Executive Office.

Collegiate Chapter Coordinators: Alumna volunteer who manages the team of volunteers assigned to chapters in her region.  She also supports collegiate district officers of her region and works closely with our Fraternity officers.

Fraternity Specialists:  These alumnae volulnteers assist chapters in their region according to their specialty in four different areas:  Recruitment, Finances, Housing, and Panhellenic relations.

New Chapter Development Coordinator:  Tri Delta has one full-time staff member at Executive Office who works exclusively with chapters in their first five years.  This staff member devotes her time to ensuring the growth and development of the new chapter.

Financial Support:  All colonization, field consultant, chapter visitor, recruitment, leadership training and installation expenses for new chapters are funded by the Fraternity.  The Fraternity provides each new chapter a start up balance to assist them with their chapter costs.

Advisor Training:  The advisory team for a new chapter receives a weekend of training from a Tri Delta advisor trainer to help the new advisors learn how to promote the success of a new chapter.

Faculty Advisor:  A university professor or campus professional who serves as the chapter's mentor and educational resource.  This person does not need to be a member of Tri Delta.

Executive Office Staff:  Collegiate chapters are assisted by professional staff members at Tri Delta's Executive Office.

House Corporation:  A group of area alumnae who work to locate, furnish and maintain a chapter facility.

Fraternity Officers:  Executive Board members are available to provide direct assistance with special projects or visits to chapters when needed.

Tri Delta's History of Giving http://www.tridelta.org/collegian/philanthropy_history Tri Delta's commitment to raising funds and volunteering for worthy causes goes back many years.

content-dotted-line.png

World War I

War related service projects and scholarships were among the earliest expressions of that commitment. In 1916, the Student Loans Fund was established. Then World War I began and Tri Delta's international war service included two major projects. The Fraternity supported a rest and recreation center in Tours, France started by the American Y.W.C.A. at the request of the French government. Tri Delta also helped a reconstruction school in Guny, France by sending a check to the American Committee for Devastated France which would supply a heating plant and material comforts.

The final disposition of the WWI service project money was made by the 1928 Convention. Tri Delta sent $2,500 to endow a room in the proposed new American dormitory in the Cite Universitaire of Paris where an inscription was placed on the door of room 248.

img007.jpg

World War II

In 1942, Tri Deltas continued to focus its altruism abroad in support of the United China relief, a program dedicated to the education and preservation of democracy. The Fraternity also offered aid to the Russian War Relief by contributing $1,000 in order to help defray the cost of a letter exchange program between the women of North America and Russia.

In addition to the international service projects, the Fraternity created the General War Service Scholarship Fund at the beginning of World War II. Competitions for its awards were promoted on all campuses where Tri Delta had chapters. At the conclusion of the war, the name of Tri Delta's philanthropy was changed to Tri Delta Service Projects. The General Fund became the National Fund in 1963, and then in 1980, the National Scholarship Awards were renamed to the Zoe Gore Perrin Scholarships in recognition of Zoe's long dedication to Service Projects.

crest_ds.pngSince it's founding in 1888, Delta Delta Delta Fraternity has remained a values-based organization that is an innovator and leader in our communities, both on campus and the world beyond. We are so pleased to welcome your daughter into this proud tradition.

As a member, your daughter is required to meet certain obligations of membership; many are determined by the individual chapter, as we believe it is the chapter's right and responsibility to determine the best path for its members, provided that path is in line with Tri Delta's core values. Each year, members of collegiate chapters review Tri Delta Fraternity Policies and Procedures and every Tri Delta signs the Obligations of Membership and Statement of Financial Responsibility. You should receive a copy of these documents from your daughter's chapter. Please review them carefully, so you will be familiar with the standards and policies of the Fraternity.

As your daughter faces the challenges of collegiate life, professional development and personal growth, Delta Delta Delta promises to assist her in every possible way. If you have any questions about the services provided by the Fraternity please feel free to call our Executive Office at (817) 633-8001.
