Our Initiatives http://www.tridelta.org/thecenter/ourinitiatives en-us Mon, 15 Jul 2013 04:34:00 -0500 BodyImage3D http://www.tridelta.org/thecenter/ourinitiatives/bodyimage3d BI3DLogoforWeb.pngIn 2012, Tri Delta will launch BodyImage3D™, a multi-dimensional approach to body image awareness and education. This initiative encourages a more well rounded, in depth body image to transpire when it serves as the central focal point for three key components: healthy mind, healthy body and healthy spirit.

BodyImage3D™ will kick off in October 2012 with continued Fat Talk Free® awareness and will continue as a year round effort, each month showcasing a new theme, bringing new challenges and sharing further opportunities for all to strive for and achieve a healthier, more complete body image.

Collegiate chapters will receive a kit in early fall thoroughly explaining how they can implement BI3D® as a chapter or how individual members can get involved. BI3D is intended to be an ongoing initiative and will provide opportunities for chapters to be creative in how they educate their campus communities about body image each month. BI3D will not take place on a specific date. Rather it will introduce a new themes to include articles, newsletters, events, initiatives, challenges, interactive online incentives and program opportunities each month allowing chapters to choose how and when they will engage in sharing body image initiatives among their membership and on their campuses.

The Fat Talk Free pledge and overall message will still be incorporated throughout the month of October. However, our Body Image Manifesto will be introduced with the new initiative and will serve as the ongoing consistent pledge in all elements of the programming initiative. Chapters will receive the manifesto on cards with a cling, similar to the FTFW pledge cards used in 2010. BI3D information will be available on www.bodyimage3d.org (coming October 1, 2012). Taken from the Body Image Manifesto, "I am 3D" will serve as the BodyImage3D tagline or mantra, encouraging individuals to be healthy in mind, body and spirit. This tagline will be used throughout all marketing efforts and will serve as the verbiage on the static cling decals. It implies someone who has committed to be healthy in mind, body and spirit by personally getting involved in the initiative online and by signing the Manifesto.

The Center asked members interested in helping to further our body image initiatives to submit videos to serve as the next face, voice and personality of this new initiative. These women, known as BodyImage3D Ambassadors were brought to Executive Office to shoot video and photo to be used throughout the campaign.

Reflections: Body Image Program®

One component of the Body Image 3D™ initiative is the Reflections: Body Image Program®.

Reflections is currently undergoing some strategic planning with regard to overall chapter implementation and training. Until August 2012, Reflections training occurred during Body Image Academy and chapters had the opportunity to apply for grants to offset the costs of training and implementation. There are no plans to hold Body Image Academy and/or distribute grants at this time as we evaluate how chapters are trained and implement this program in a way that is most efficient and most effective.

Tri Delta chapters will be placed on an implementation schedule during the Fall of 2012. The program will be implemented among Tri Delta's sophomore membership and all chapters will receive Reflections training as outlined on the referenced schedule which will begin in January 2013. Chapters will be informed of training changes and implementation plans during the Fall 2012.

Body Image Coordinators who have been slated specifically to implement the program should instead be responsible for implementing BI3D initiatives until further plans have been released regarding the Reflections program.

Fat Talk Free® Week

Fat Talk Free® Week is an international, 5-day body activism campaign to draw attention to body image issues and the damaging impact of the 'thin ideal' on women in society. This annual public awareness effort was born from Tri Delta's award-winning body image education and eating disorders prevention program, Reflections: Body Image Program®.

Fat Talk Free events (day or week) is just one of the ways that chapters can be involved in the new BI3D initiatives. Fat Talk Free will kick off and launch Tri Delta's new BI3D initiatives in October 2012. Chapters may host events to support Fat Talk Free anytime in the month of October but the Fraternity will recognize October 22-26 as its official week.

Member Development http://www.tridelta.org/thecenter/ourinitiatives/memberdevelopment The Center's Educational Initiatives and Leadership Development programming are designed to enhance the life of the individual members that make up Tri Delta.

Built upon Tri Delta's values of Friendship, Intellectual Life, Character and Unselfish Leadership, members have the opportunity to develop management and leadership skills, improve upon communication and problem solving and strengthen the bonds of sisterhood.

Power of Purpose: Member Development Initiative

In an effort to "assist our members in every possible way," The Center has recently launched a complete program for the development of our individual members. Complete with scripted open meeting modules, an online library full of activities, and e-learning opportunities catered to an individual, our Member Development Chairmen are well equipped to design opportunities to meet the needs of their chapter and to promote sisterhood.

Power of Purpose: New Member Education Program

Launched in Fall 2010, chapters were formally trained at Convention 2010. The program includes both new member class education and individual e-learning opportunities for every new member embarking upon Tri Delta membership. The new program was designed by four collegiate women, each of whom had previously served as a new member educator within their collegiate chapter. Since the launch of the program, The Center has received extremely positive feedback regarding the content and resources made available by the program.

Academic Excellence Initiative

With the goal of contributing to the "intellectual life" in Tri Delta, The Center has introduced the brand new Academic Excellence Initiative. This initiative is designed to cater to the chapter as a whole as well as specific members struggling academically. It offers scripted workshops as well as tools for creating a scholastic plan for any member needing to improve academically. It guides an Academic Development Chairman through the process of making academics a priority.

Party Smart Event Planning

The Party Smart Event Planning Guide is designed to assist chapter officers with the necessary procedures for planning a successful, fun and safe event. Complete with event ideas, instructions for determining the level of risk involved and planning timelines, any chapter officer should be prepared for all aspects of success in planning their events.

Career Resources

Delta and The Center for Living, Learning and Leading have teamed up with JobBound, a career services company, to bring members the resources and tools to prepare for jobs and careers at any stage of the post collegiate life.

Available on Delta's Only, the JobBound resources are designed for both collegiate and alumnae members to assist in the various stages of starting or maintaining a career including interviews, resumes, networking, cover letters, thank you notes and establishing confidence and professionalism in the workplace.

Journey 360 Degrees

Journey 360 Degrees excursions combine the allure of travel with the breathtaking joy of self-examination and rich personal development, helping us become true leaders. Each day we will use the brilliant landscape of Costa Rica to help us understand the underlying truths, practices, and timeless principles of enduring leadership. We will explore current world-class leadership practices, discover fresh solutions to today's leadership challenges, and build a network of business associations and friends. We will learn from the people and the land we are immersed in. The lessons learned will leave an indelible impression on your soul.

New Member Education http://www.tridelta.org/thecenter/ourinitiatives/newmembereducation The weeks between Bid Day and Initiation often become the period of time that Tri Delta members remember as the most important part of their collegiate experience. The Center for Living, Learning and Leading collaborated with former collegiate new member educators to create the Power of Purpose: New Member Education Program. Launched in 2010, through this initiative, new members are aligned with The Purpose of Delta Delta Delta as well as some of the core values of the Fraternity including Friendship, Intellectual Life, Character, and Unselfish Leadership from the very start of their membership in Tri Delta.

The program accommodates schedules for both quarter and semester campuses, and is led by each chapter's new member educator. In addition to the group education, the program incorporates online activities for the individual member to complete on her own to both complement and allow reflection on what she is learning about Tri Delta.
