Meet the BodyImage 3D Ambassadors
In October 2012, Tri Delta will launch BodyImage3D®, a multidimensional approach to body image awareness and education. This initiative encourages a more well rounded, in depth body image to transpire when it serves as the central focal point for three key components: healthy mind, healthy body and healthy spirit.
BodyImage3D will kick off in October 2012 with continued Fat Talk Free® awareness and will continue as a year round effort, each month showcasing a new theme, bringing new challenges and sharing further opportunities for all to strive for and achieve a healthier, more complete body image.
Keep an eye out for these five women, our new BodyImage3D ambassadors for 2012-2013. They will be the women to watch as we launch our monthly body image campaigns. They'll be appearing in the newsletter, on the website and social media where they'll share their own personal experiences with body image and help us convey the message of healthy mind, body and spirit.

Tell us your name, chapter, and major: My name is Lauren McCarthy, I am a member of the Iota Chapter at the University of Michigan and I am majoring in Communications and Psychology.
What is your favorite part of your body? Why?
My favorite part of my body is my skin. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune skin disease called psoriasis when I was 12. For years I hated my skin and thought it was my worst physical trait, not to mention coping with disfigurement launched me into a slew of insecurities and body image issues. I always loved my long, blonde hair and my big, green eyes but no physical feature has ever been able to teach me the patience, endurance and courage that my skin has.
What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Run! I love to run distance, competitively and leisurely. Running helps me clear my head and calm down, but also makes me feel good about getting active.
Why do you think Body Image 3D is so important?
I think Body Image 3D is important because as sisters we can be very impactful upon one another. If one girl starts picking on her physical appearance it can result in a domino effect, but if we can all stay positive about our body image the entire chapter reaps the benefits and can feel the effect. I also truly believe in the concept of a healthy mind, body and spirit. As my psoriasis healed, I gained a healthy body but lacked a healthy body and spirit. I wasn't able to truly heal or even feel confident in myself until I had accomplished all three.
What do you hope to accomplish as a Body Image 3D Ambassador?
As a Body Image 3D Ambassador I hope I can instill the importance of a healthy mind, body and spirit in my sisters because the combination of all three is essential. I also hope that as a Body Image 3D Ambassador that I can inspire TriDelta girls with my story and by sharing my experience, hopefully making them comfortable to do the same within their own chapters. I plan to encourage girls to become involved in the Body Image 3D program, better their chapters and better themselves in mind, body and spirit.
What is your must have accessory you can't live without?
You're never fully dressed without a smile! Call me cliché but a smile is a girl's most crucial accessory. Who cares what you're wearing, if you're smiling—you're beautiful.
Leah Renaud, Creighton

Leah Renaud, CreightonTell us your name, chapter, and major: My name is Leah Renaud, I'm from the Epsilon Mu Chapter at Creighton U. and I'm undecided for a major, but considering Communications and Graphic Design.
What is your favorite part of your body? Why?
My favorite part of my body is my eyes, because they're big and bright and very expressive; kind of like me.
What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
One of my favorite things to do in my free time is cook. I love trying out new recipes or twists on old ones, and making them look/taste amazing!
Why do you think Body Image 3D is so important?
I think Body Image 3D is so important because the concept of Body Image is so much more than just how you view yourself. To view yourself well, you have to have a healthy mind, and a healthy mind also plays into having a healthy spirit. How we view ourselves and take care of ourselves all are made up of many parts, including how we react to certain situations, our personalities, our mental view, as well as our physical view of ourselves. They all play into each other, and all make up our Body Image. So our view of ourselves and our Body Image truly is 3D. I'm super excited that we're taking this new perspective and making it a part of the Reflections program.
What do you hope to accomplish as a Body Image 3D Ambassador?
As a Body Image 3D Ambassador, I hope to accomplish a few things. I want to share my passion for Reflections and a positive body image for girls and women, as well as share my own thoughts and reflections on how to view and practice a healthy body image. No one is perfect, and I know we all have those days where we just don't want to smile, don't want to feel good, and just don't want to really even try to be positive (trust me, I've been there). Through this program, I want to help other girls and my sisters to see the positive, to try to change how we think and how we view ourselves. If we all can take these steps together, maybe we can all grow together, and not only grow to have a greater body image, but a great stand against a bad body image or mentality. I find strength in my sisters, and I want them to find it in me as well.
What is your must have accessory you can't live without?
My must have accessory that I can't live without is my necklace. I wear it everyday, and rarely switch it out. It has three different charms I've collected over time; a music note, a character meaning "Love" and a peace sign. :)
Anna riverso, Villanova
Tell us your name, chapter, and major: My name is Anna Riverso and I'm from the Gamma Beta chapter at Villanova University. I'm a Comprehensive Science major with minors in Mathematics and Ethics.
What is your favorite part of your body?
My favorite part of my body is my feet. First off, they're not hairy or warty and most of the time not smelly. Secondly, I love getting pedicures, and my feet allow me to have this pleasure. I broke a toe when I was in middle school, and the pain and inability to walk brought my attention to how nice it is to be able to get around and go wherever you want, whenever you want.
What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
In my free time my favorite thing to do is hang out with my friends. I love sitting around laughing, relaxing, and enjoying each others company.
Why do you think Body Image 3D is so important?
I think Body Image 3D is important because it teaches girls to love who they are in every capacity. The society we live in is always pressuring us to strive for the impossible, with a constant emphasis on appearance. In reality, we should focus on being proud of our individuality, which includes not only our unique body shapes, but our thoughts and beliefs as well. Body Image 3D captures the importance of loving ones whole self, a refreshing and important message.
What do you hope to accomplish as a Body Image 3D Ambassador?
As a Body Image 3D Ambassador, I hope to be an example of happiness and success without pursuit of the Thin Ideal. So many girls and women strive to look like photoshopped celebs and models because they believe an equal physique will bring them happiness. I want to be living proof that the happiness they seek comes in accepting and loving every part of who they are, not constant failed attempts at trying to be someone else.
What is your must have accessory you can't live without?
My must have accessory is Chapstick. I don't think thats technically an accessory, but I definitely cannot live without it!! All my friends come to me when they need Chapstick knowing I have anywhere from 1 to 4 within reaching distance of me.

What is your favorite part of your body? Why?
My legs! I work hard to keep them strong, and get me through the day.
What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Go to the gym and get a good workout in. It is a great de-stresser, and it is a time were I can just zone out and think. I always end up feeling so much better.
Why do you think Body Image 3D is so important?
I think it is important because it gets us back to just focusing on being healthy and not so much on trying to achieve the unrealistic thin ideal. It will change the way we think about body image completely for the positive. Taking these positive ideals and modeling them for the whole will be such a great thing.
What do you hope to accomplish as a Body Image 3D Ambassador?
I hope that as being a Body Image 3D Ambassador I can be as positive and as smiley of a role model as I can. There are many more obstacles we need to overcome in the body image world and I really hope to help us get of the right track in a way that benefits everyone.
What is your must have accessory you can't live without?
My headphones. If you ever see me either at the gym or even just walking around on campus I probably will have them in my ears and listening to music. It is like always having a soundtrack for my life playing.

Tell us your name, chapter, and major.
My name is Alexandra Waller, but I usually go by Allie! I'm a proud member of the Gamma Tau chapter of Delta Delta Delta at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I'm a Media Arts & Design major with a minor in Theatre.
What is your favorite part of your body? Why?
I like my smile! I've always been someone that tries to stay positive in all situations. I make an effort to keep a smile on my face with everything I do. I won "Best smile" for senior superlatives, and that's when I realized that just a smile can take you a long way.
What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love being lazy and catching up on my favorite shows - The Glee Project and Cake Boss. I'm also a big crafter! I love making trips to the craft store and spending the day making Delta crafts. While I'm at school, I love spending time with my lovely Tri-Delta sisters! I really enjoy getting involved with my chapter.
Why do you think Body Image 3D is so important?
I love the fact that Body Image 3D incorporates all aspects of body image - mind, body & spirit. That really is what a healthy body image is all about. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful, and I think Body Image 3D is just one step closer to eliminating the "thin ideal," and providing women with a healthier ideal, that's not just based on external appearances.
What do you hope to accomplish as a Body Image 3D Ambassador?
I'm so excited and honored to be representing such an important and meaningful campaign. As a Body Image 3D Ambassador, I hope to reach out to women about healthy body image, and give them something to relate to. But also, Body Image 3D is also a personal journey. I'm hoping to learn more about myself as well!
What is your must have accessory you can't live without?
Other than my Tri-Delta lavaliere, I'm always carrying around my Lilly Pulitzer wristlet!
