Chicago Cruising: An Architectural River and Lake Cruise

There is nothing to compare with the breathtaking sight of magnificent Chicago rising majestically from the shores of Lake Michigan. Come see Chicago as it deserves to be seen – from its inland sea. Let’s take an urban adventure on the lake as well as the river.

Wednesday, July 2 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

What better way to view the birthplace of American architecture than on a leisurely cruise on the city’s wonderful waterway.  You will be introduced to the spectacular buildings created along the banks of the Chicago River by more than 100 premier architects.  The docent will point out Tribune Tower, the mighty merchandise Mart, the beautifully curved design of the 333 Wacker Building, Sears tower and many more architecturally significant buildings.  You will be fascinated by the stories behind some of these splendid creations, as well as their creators.  The incomparable view of this World Class City as seen from the Chicago River is a photographer’s dream come true. 

You’ll enter the locks that separate Lake Michigan from the Chicago River and learn about the amazing feat by the US Army Corps of Engineers when they reversed the flow of the river.  From the lake you’ll have an excellent view of Chicago’s fabulous skyline.
