Susan Komives professor and champion of higher education

Susan Richardson Komives, Florida State, is a leader in higher education. A professor in the College Student Development graduate program at the University of Maryland, Susan is also president-elect of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. She is former president of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and former vice president for student development at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. and at the University of Tampa. Susan has co-edited and co-authored several important handbooks on student services and leadership in higher education. As co-founder and editor of research and publications for the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs and a senior scholar with the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, Susan and her research team have published their grounded theory on Leadership Identity Development. She is co-principal investigator of the Multi-institutional Study of Leadership (MSL), a 52-campus study of college student leadership outcomes and campus practices that contribute to those outcomes with more than 63,000 respondents. Throughout her career, Susan has been honored with numerous awards and most recently with the NASPA Contribution of Scholarship and Literature Award and the ACPA Contribution to Knowledge Award. |
