Why is there a Foundation? Why aren't dues enough?
By having a Foundation, Tri Delta is able to accept tax-deductible contributions that the Fraternity does not have the capability to do. There are always ever-growing and changing needs to "assist our members in every possible way." The Foundation was created by Tri Delta for Tri Deltas (1986 Convention Resolution).
How can I help?
Donors can assist Tri Delta in a variety of ways. The Foundation is able to accept annual gifts of cash and stock, gifts through event proceeds, memorial and honor gifts, planned gifts through wills, bequests, insurance policies, trusts and annuities, as well as major gifts for programs and endowments.
Where does my money go and who does it help?
Donations are used to cover operating expenses and towards Tri Delta programs. In addition, the Foundation is able to assist Tri Delta members through graduate and undergraduate scholarships, Collegiate Crescent Fund and Crescent Fund grants to Tri Deltas in need, as well as Fraternity funded education and leadership initiatives.
How is the Foundation different from the Fraternity?
They are separate legal entities. The Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable 501 (c) 3 organization and the Fraternity is a nonprofit 501 (c) 7 membership organization.
The Foundation primarly looks for large gifts that would most normally be given by older alumnae, right?
No. The Tri Delta Foundation does welcome large gifts, and is truly grateful for them. Smaller gifts help us do great things too. Collegians and younger alumnae are not usually in a position to commit to large gifts. The Foundation understands that. In the early years following graduation, participation in supporting the Foundation is every bit as important as the size of the gift.
Right now, I'm only able to give $25, and tax-deductibility certainly isn't my motivation. I'd like to do more, and plan to do it someday, but I can't believe my twenty-five bucks now will make much difference.
You'd be surprised what $25 can do! Not necessarily by itself, true, but your gift is "pooled" with other gifts (larger and smaller). Combined, all those gifts do wonderful things for Tri Delta. |
