More than 80 women signed up to be a part of the 90s
reunion throughout the Feb 24-27 weekend. They traveled from as far as
Boston, Houston, Kansas City, Dallas,
Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, Atlanta, the Gulf
Coast, and all throughout Mississippi. Each class from the
1990s was represented at this reunion.
The weekend consisted of social dinners and lunches, a Swinging for St. Jude
event hosted by the collegiate chapter and a tour of the DDD Beta
Mu House on campus. During these events, prints of the house - which
was drawn by a sister - were sold. All proceeds from the
prints were donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as were
profits from the alumnae t-shirts made especially for the event and
personal donations. After ad money, t-shirt profit, prints and
personal donations, the alumnae reunion group raised more than $1,000
for St. Jude.
In addition to the money raised, many alumnae came to the softball fields on Saturday to support the collegiate chapter,
including former philanthropy Meade Hartfield, who started Swinging for
St. Jude, formerly known as Frats at Bat, in 1999. In its first year, the
event raised more than $40,000 and the tradition has continued now for
more than 12 years! Many people do not know this, but that first Frats at Bat
event ultimately led to the partnership between St. Jude and Tri Delta. Meade
worked with the Fraternity and St. Jude during that time, and was awarded
the St. Jude Jerry Nicholson Young Volunteer Award for her efforts.
It was overall a fantastic weekend. Sisters were thrilled to reconnect not only
with each other, but with the collegiate chapter as well. The Beta Mu legacy is
alive and thriving at Mississippi State University, thanks in no small part to
the support of alumnae and the bright enthusiasm of Beta Mu's youngest sisters.
