Five Olympian Tri Deltas Compete in 2012 London Games

Tri Delta is thrilled to have five of its members competing for Team USA in the 2012 London Olympics. We are eager to watch them compete and wish them the best of luck during this exciting time.

"I get such a thrill watching Olympic competition. For me the excitement will be TRIPLED knowing my Tri Delta sisters are among some of the world's most elite athletes!" says Fraternity President Phyllis Durbin Grissom, Southern Methodist. "Our Rituals urge us to have confidence, find our special talent and master that talent. It is inspiring to see the principles of our Ritual in action in the lives of these Tri Delta athletes. I hope our Tri Delta athletes feel the love and support of our perpetual bond of sisterhood all around them as they compete in their events and soak up the Olympic experience."

"It is both amazing and awe inspiring to know that 5 Tri Delta women are representing our Nation at the Summer Olympic Games in London.  To participate as an athlete at that level requires a strong commitment, dedication and passion," said Executive Board Member Carol Knoche Helmus, Millikin.  "These are all qualities that we as Tri Delta women aspire to whatever our path in life."

"Over the past few evenings, I have watched the Olympics with my young sons while talking with them about the spirit of competition, but also the concept of teamwork.  For some events, it is almost emotional to see young men and women - Olympians - compete against one another, knowing they have worked their entire life for one single moment or competition.  For other events, I can't help but think about all of the sacrifices that family, friends and mentors have made to support the competitor over their lifetime," said Allison Reams Griffin, Theta Kappa.  "Now, to know that some of these Olympians - the best in their sport in the world - are also members of Delta Delta Delta and are also committed to our values of truth, self-sacrifice, and friendship is overwhelming.  To know that these five women not only know our ritual, but live it in their sport and their life is meaningful and reassuring that Tri Delta IS about lifetime membership and is relevant far beyond our individual campus collegiate experience."
