Eloise, who is 84 years old, was recognized by President George W. Bush for her distinguished history of volunteer service with animals. Other than a small group of local dignitaries, Eloise and her husband were the only Hawaii residents allowed to greet the President and his wife on the tarmac at Hickam Air Force Base.
She has worked with animals since her retirement in 1983, first at the Hawaiian Humane Society and for the last 16 years with the Red Cross Human Animal Bond Program at Tripler Army Medical Center. Eloise is one of the 550 volunteers nationwide to be named a USA Freedom Corps Greeter. |
