SUPPORT Tri Delta officials and volunteers are working with the chapter at the University of South Carolina during this difficult time to offer counseling services, support and guidance while our members are understandably stricken with grief at the loss of their sisters. The women there continue to be in our thoughts and prayers, and you can be assured they have the support of an entire sisterhood behind them to provide strength when they need it.
Notes and letters of support for the chapter may be sent to Jason Gomez, Director of Chapter Services, at jgomez@trideltaeo.org or to PO Box 5987, Arlington, Texas, 76005-5987.
CAROLINA REMEMBRANCE FUND
The Carolina Remembrance Fund has been established in honor and memory of the six Carolina students who died in the Ocean Isle fire Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007. Proceeds from the fund will honor these students through their sorority, Delta Delta Delta, or fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
FRATERNITY RESPONSE Lauren Hodge, Chapter President at the University of South Carolina, gave the following statement: "There are no words to express the devastation we feel for our fellow students and sisters affected by the tragedy. Out of respect for the families and friends of the victims who are grieving this incredible loss, we are focusing our efforts internally and are coming together to support one another through these grave circumstances. On behalf of Tri Delta, I'd like to thank everyone from the community and beyond who has offered their generous thoughts and prayers."
Video of Lauren's recent remarks as well as video from other affected by the fire can be viewed here. More from Alpha Lambda, including quotes from the women remembering their sisters, can be read here.
Fraternity President Michelle Popp Shimberg, Florida, has released the following statement:
“The heartbreaking loss of seven young lives as a result of the house fire in Ocean Isle Beach is truly unfathomable and Tri Delta is devastated to have lost three of our own members. As family members and friends mourn the reality of these tragic circumstances, I admire the bravery and dignity that our collegiate women have shown, as they have come together to grieve, love and support one another.”
