In November 1999, Tri Delta further enhanced its current philanthropic focus by forming a partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. This partnership allows Tri Delta chapters the option to help St. Jude on a national level as well as support traditional philanthropic events for local children's cancer charities.
In September 2002, Tri Delta's Executive Board agreed to a four-year, million dollar commitment to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The project funded the Patient Teen Room, a safe haven for teen-aged patients looking to get a few minutes away from parents and hospital staff. Included as part of recent renovations, the Patient Teen Room was added to provide older patients with a place of their own-an area strictly for teens and completely “off-limits” to small children and adults. The room includes an activity area, computer center, entertainment room and a music area. Tri Delta's commitment to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is recognized by a plaque outside of the room.
In May 2005, Tri Delta fulfilled the million dollar endowment for the Patient Teen Room and celebrated with the Executive Board, collegiate and alumnae members, and patients. For the full story, see the Summer 2005 issue of the Trident.
During the 2005-2006 school year, Tri Deltas across the country helped to raise $1 million in a single year!
In July 2006, Tri Delta's Executive Board announced a $7.5 million commitment to the hospital for the construction of the Chili's Care Center. The Tri Delta Patient Care Floor will be located in the new building where patients will be treated and brain tumor research can continue. This commitment is to be completed over a period of 5-7 years.
The commitment to the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor started off with a bang when our chapters hit the $2.5 million mark in December 2006. The Executive Board and St. Jude realized chapters were going to meet the goal of $7.5 million ahead of schedule and decided to raise the bar. In March 2007 at the Regional Leadership Conferences, Tri Delta announced its commitment to the Chili's Care Center would be $10 million in 10 years! Chapters across the country are now pushing the 10 in 10 campaign to maximize their money raising efforts.
Tri Delta has become one of the leaders within the Greek community in terms of dollars raised for a single charity. More than 90% of our collegiate chapters are supporting St. Jude.
