Tri Delta Place Renovations
News, Philanthropy | March 23, 2017

For the families who travel to Memphis for their child’s treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the last thing on their minds during such a disorienting time is securing hotel accommodations. The wonderful news is that St. Jude provides free housing to any family who lives more than 35 miles from the St. Jude campus, whose child’s treatment requires an overnight stay, to ensure they have a comfortable place to reside between treatments at the hospital.

One such housing accommodation is Tri Delta Place, reserved for St. Jude patients and families needing lodging for up to one week. Tri Delta is honored to be recognized with the naming of the on-campus, short-term housing facility – a direct result of Tri Delta’s commitment to raise $60 million in 10 years for the hospital, the single largest pledge by a St. Jude partner in the hospital’s history.

On Dec. 5, 2016, Tri Delta Place closed for renovations. The 64 hotel-style rooms and 36 suites on all four residential floors received a refresh with a focus on family-centered design. Prior to the major renovation, St. Jude families were consulted about their living experience, and requests for updated décor and furniture, an enhanced storage and work space and the addition of a kitchenette and eating space were prioritized. All rooms and hallways received new furniture, flooring, paint, window coverings, linens and artwork – with a theme to compliment the main floor of the facility and Tri Delta colors and emblems woven tastefully throughout.

During the renovations, families were housed in hotels near the hospital’s campus to ensure a safe and comfortable stay, with transportation provided to and from St. Jude to meet the needs of each family. The renovation was anticipated to take 10 weeks, with the building to reopen on March 1, 2017. However, the hospital completed all updates ahead of schedule, and families moved back into Tri Delta Place the weekend of Feb. 18-19.

On Feb. 22, ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude, and Tri Delta hosted a welcome dinner for all facility guests; it was a great success! Tri Delta collegians from Rhodes College assisted in serving the meal to residents as families enjoyed gathering together to dine and watch a movie.
