Meet Shereen Sarthou McCall, South Florida, from our Beta Alpha chapter. Shereen has worked in corporate communications at a financial company for 12 years, with her first nine years spent in media relations. Today, she is an Internal Communications Manager, focusing on employee-facing and culture communications.
Shereen started her leadership journey within her collegiate chapter, holding roles such as Vice President of Public Relations, Academic Development Chair and Vice President of Membership. She now continues to serve on Tri Delta’s extension committee, where she loves connecting with Tri Deltas from all over the country and enhancing her understanding of how the organization works.
Moving around during childhood as a “Navy brat,” she currently resides north of Tampa, Florida with her two boys (ages 5 and 8), her college sweetheart whom she married 11 years ago and their three cats.
Fun fact
Although Shereen describes her personality as risk-averse, she has been skydiving twice. She says she can’t stop herself from taking advantage of a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deal!
What made you decide to volunteer for Tri Delta?
“I met Allison Lackey Peschel, Millikin, in college when she visited as a CDC during recruitment week. Fast forward to this year, she reached out to see if I was interested in volunteering, and I was honored! It’s one of the things I love about Tri Delta—the bonds are always there. Her reaching out made me feel supported and valued, and knowing she thought of me for the committee inspired me to say yes. It’s still new to me, but this experience has already opened my eyes to how many roles exist within Tri Delta that I didn’t even know about. It’s incredible to see how many volunteers we need to keep everything running, and it makes me want to continue volunteering.”
What do you get most out of volunteering?
“In college, I found so much fulfillment in my leadership positions, and now, I’m really looking forward to giving back to Tri Delta. I’m excited to expand the impact Tri Delta had on me, helping the organization grow in new schools and new towns that are looking for a sorority like ours. Knowing I’m part of extending Tri Delta’s legacy is incredibly fulfilling.”
What is your most memorable experience as a volunteer?
“We had an extension meeting in between the two hurricanes that hit Florida. Everyone on the call was sharing good vibes and well wishes for getting through the storms. It was so special because even though I didn’t know everyone well yet, the feeling of sisterhood was so strong, even while we were discussing business. A couple of the sisters even followed up with me afterward to check in. It reminded me of the broad, supportive community we have in Tri Delta. Volunteering has responsibilities, but it’s the sisterhood that comes first.”
What advice do you have for other Tri Deltas who are thinking about volunteering?
“Go for it! When Allison called me, I wasn’t sure if I was qualified enough or involved enough at the time. I even thought, ‘Maybe I’m not the best person for this.’ But having someone believe in you and encourage you and trying something outside your comfort zone—that’s where real growth happens. If you’re considering volunteering, explore the opportunities. You might be surprised at what you find.”
Final thought
“I’m excited for all the ways I’m going to grow. It’s a valuable opportunity to give back, reconnect with Tri Delta and challenge yourself.”
