Sister Delta,
You may have seen news reports about a lawsuit related to a 2024 incident involving a now-alumna member of Alpha Beta Chapter at Cornell University. I know many of you, like me, are feeling saddened, outraged and deeply concerned.
The acts of sexual violence described in the reporting are abhorrent and inexcusable. As a woman, as a mother and especially as the person entrusted to lead this sisterhood, my heart breaks for any sister or woman who has experienced sexual assault.
Because Tri Delta is named in the lawsuit, there are questions we cannot answer publicly and details we cannot discuss while the legal process is underway. We know this may be frustrating, but please don’t mistake it for a lack of action, urgency or concern. Tri Delta is seeking to understand the facts as quickly as possible.
What we can say with conviction is Tri Delta supports women and will continue to stand beside those who have experienced sexual violence. Throughout my Tri Delta membership, I have witnessed our sisterhood create communities where women are deeply supported and treated with compassion.
There will undoubtedly be difficult conversations and strong reactions as the lawsuit moves forward. Some of what is said publicly may be painful for our sisters to hear. We cannot control every characterization made or conclusion reached by others. What we can do is treat one another with care and kindness, continue to support our sisters and live out our shared values.
Tri Delta’s immediate priority is supporting the Alpha Beta Chapter at Cornell and its members. Tri Delta has provided on-site staff support for chapter leaders, members and volunteers, counseling resources and additional security at the chapter house. We are continuing to assess what our members need and will provide additional support and resources as appropriate.
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Tri Delta at communications@trideltaeo.org. If you or someone you know is seeking support, please visit RAINN’s website, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, for 24/7 support and resources.
Loyally,

Stacey Dickenson Cox, Southern Methodist
