Tri Delta has a long history of excellence in providing housing for its members.
According to the 75th anniversary issue of The Trident, in 1919 fewer than a dozen Tri Delta chapters owned properties. Some chapters rented houses, but most members could be found living in crowded dormitories or rooming houses. It was just 30 years after the Fraternity's founding and World War I had ended. The restrictions of the war had been lifted and students began pouring into college towns and needed safe and comfortable places to live. College administrators were focused on securing classroom space and equipment and could not give their attention to student housing. Concerned for members' health and safety, Fraternity officers decided they would encourage chapters to own their own houses and they would make funds available where needed. Before the end of the 1920s, 40 houses valued at $2,000,000 had been built, remodeled or were in the blueprint stage. Many of these houses were built according to Fraternity guidelines that called for quiet study rooms, airy sleeping quarters and spacious but homelike living and dining rooms.
Today, most Tri Delta facilities are owned and managed by local house corporations who are made up of alumnae living in the area.
Delta Delta Delta National House Corporation, incorporated in 1991, is an impressive force in the Greek and student housing market today. Currently, Tri Delta House Corporations own and/or manage facilities at 120 chapters.
In most cases, house corporations own traditional sorority houses where chapter members live, share meals, attend meetings and host chapter events. However, some house corporations own, rent or manage other types of facilities, ranging from a suite in a university building, an apartment building, or a specially designed lodge. The National House Corporation Board of Directors, Housing Specialists and National House Corporation staff are responsible for all housing initiatives and real estate operations of the Fraternity.
