Inclusion and Belonging

Our Calling to Be Kind Alike to All

Our Commitment

Anchored by the call of our Founders to be an organization that is kind alike to all, Tri Delta is committed to creating a space where women find a meaningful experience centered in belonging. Inspired by our Purpose, we honor the uniqueness of each of our members. We strive to educate, empower and equip them to become the best versions of themselves, to have a positive impact on their communities and to successfully navigate an ever-changing world.

Our Guiding Principles

Tri Delta’s commitment to increasing access and belonging is grounded in three guiding principles:

  • THE MEMBER EXPERIENCE
Inclusion and belonging will be embedded into every aspect of the member experience—collegiate and alumnae. Belonging is critical to member engagement and retention at every level.
  • BRAVE, BOLD AND KIND ALIKE TO ALL
By being brave, bold and kind alike to all, we will pursue belonging while understanding that we can always do better and grow from the past.
  • EQUIP, EMPOWER, ENGAGE
We must equip and empower our members to engage in conversations that acknowledge our differences, move toward understanding and create a stronger sisterhood.

Our Goals

  • Understand who our members are so that we can serve them better.
  • Engage our members in ways to increase belonging.
  • Ensure that all members can see themselves in Tri Delta.
  • Educate in a way that equips members and volunteers to create belonging in their chapters and readies them for their post-college career and life experiences.
  • Reduce barriers to accessing the Greek experience.

Our Outcomes

It is our hope that we will achieve the following three outcomes in our journey to increasing belonging:

  • Increase belonging in our chapters and in the organization as a whole.
  • Increase access to the experience.
  • Create generations of women who are equipped to have critical conversations, to create welcoming spaces and to learn and grow in understanding and navigating differences.

How Has Tri Delta Acknowledged Our Past?

In 2020, we completed an audit led by Culture Shift Team to identify where we could grow. That audit resulted in a few actions:

  • We reviewed Tri Delta’s Governing Documents, policies and processes.
  • We began collecting demographic data on our members to learn more about them and better serve them.
  • We began educating members to equip them to create more belonging within the Tri Delta experience.
  • We worked to ensure that all Tri Delta members found representation in Tri Delta’s Board leadership.
  • We acknowledged our past and shared the story of Diane Petersen, one of our first Black members, and the discrimination that she experienced when she joined Tri Delta in the late 1960s.
  • We began to embed the work around belonging into all aspects of Tri Delta.
